Ask a group of people to define what a church is and you will probably hear a number of different responses. Some think that the church is just a religious organization, self-empowered to rule the lives of its perishioners. Others consider it more of a social agency, obligated to meet the needs of the community, to be there when you marry and when you die and to lead the way in the fight against social injustice. Still others have a certain disdain for the church for its old-fashioned ideas and puritanical values.
What is the church really? While the above definitions do indeed fit many 21st century churches, the Lord sees the church (His church) as people - a special people; a called-out people; born again believers called out by God from sin's judgement to eternal glory and personal holiness for the purpose of worshipping and glorifying Him. Thus, the church is a living organism, pulsating with the life of God imparted by His Spirit to each believer.
We at Bonner Springs Baptist Church have united together as a local assembly not only through our common bond in Christ, but also to fulfill the purpose the Lord has called us to fulfill. We all share in the desire to exalt the name of the Lord our God, to give the Lord Jesus Christ the preeminence in all things and to be led of His Spirit. We are a called-out people, grateful for the riches that are ours through knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to expressing that gratitude together as a local church.
Bonner Springs Baptist Church is our title, but family is our essence for we, as called-out people, are united as a family - a family of individuals, each one unique, each one sharing with others a special set of gifts, talents, and needs; each involved in the dynamics of growth...reaching forward...and enjoying the support and encouragement of God's family.
As we look forward to a new year we also look forward to new challenges. In 2010 we have chosen to make it a year of service. We are going to purpose to serve God in exciting ways, to serve one another in love and to serve our community with continued outreach and love. We invite you to join us in this adventure of service. |
